Instructor

As an instructor, I am invested in coaching artist-citizens who have the skills to no only pursue careers in and outside of theatre, but who are prepared to creatively engage with the issues that affect our everyday lives. Paulo Friere’s educational theories in Pedagogy of the Oppressed inspire me to create spaces of collaborative exchange where students’ various cultural experiences contribute to our learning environment. My feminist commitments are reflected in my inclusive citational practices, as well as in the projects I design to connect students learning goals to their local and global socio-political landscapes.

Acting Coach
Mentoring students beyond the classroom is important to me. I have led several audition workshops and coached a number of students in preparation for auditions.

Teaching Evaluations & Observations
"Kasey was gentle and strategic in her direction, offering open ended questions, or suggesting things to try when students were confused or stuck keeping it short and sweet. Her feedback was thoughtful, precise, validating, and generative. " (Dr. Les Gray, 2022)

"I appreciate how much Kasey 'goes with' whatever is thrown at her and 'uses it' to progress the class. I could see this when a student arrived with a dog and Kasey allowed the dog to not only stay, but encouraged the student to incorporate the dog—'make it part of your character'" (Dr. Claire Syler, 2021)

"Kasey was very skilled at gathering the student’s responses and was very gentle and generous dealing with the stronger emotional aspect of the series which dealt with controversial issues. Kasey also went into great detail about how the Life and Literature Series was developed, cast, and produced. Really excellent explanations about creating this event via zoom, while remaining Covid-safe." (Dr. David Crespy, 2020)

"I liked the diverse range of assignments. I also liked that we were able to write our own material." (Performance of Lit, 2024)

"The students in this class are also at varying levels of acting experience, and Kasey did a great job of meeting each individual at their own level" (Performance of Lit, 2023)

"I learned so much about how text is turned into a performance and for me it was super worthwhile" (Performance of Lit, 2023)

"She challenges you, in a good way, to be a better performer and speaker." (Performance of Lit, 2023)

"Kasey was incredibly enthusiastic, open minded, and well versed in the subject. She was personable and fostered an environment that was open, communicative, and encouraging. She is one of the few teachers on this campus that I can say know me and are aware of my presence in their class." (Intro to Perfromance Studies, 2022)

"I really enjoyed how clear the objectives for this class were. Having an amazing teacher really helped. It was very engaging and interesting. I'm glad I took the class." (Acting for Non-Majors, 2022)

"Kasey really worked to create a positive judgement free environment." (Acting for Non-Majors, 2021)

"Kasey was always ready to help in any way she could, full of enthusiasm, passionate about what she did, and dedicated to the success and confidence of every student in the class." (Acting for Non-Majors, 2021)
